Is it a comedy show? A reality show? An in-depth documentary series? Yes and no to all of the above. HBO's The Rehearsal is one of those shows that is almost indefinable.
The show follows comedian Nathan Fielder as he tries to understand life's unexpected things through elaborate recreations of those unexpected events. (I know, it's confusing, stay with me here, it's worth it). In its second season, Fielder is currently looking into flight disasters and what causes them. He noticed that in many major disasters, tragedy could have been prevented if the co-pilots had spoken up and done something. So, Fielder created an elaborate social experiment, involving real pilots and recreating the Houston airport, to see if better communication could lead to fewer air disasters.
You're probably like, "You said this was a comedy, but this doesn't sound funny." I know, I know, but trust me, it is, and that's all because of Fielder's unique ability to live in those awkward moments. Fielder is that weird friend you have to explain to other friends before you hang out with them, but you still like them a lot. (Admit it, you have that friend, we all have that friend).
Let me know when you do watch. I'm @HAlanScott on everything. That's it for me today. Keep scrolling for entertainment news.
