Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein Is Always 'Embarrassed,' and It Makes Great Material

While the internet is still obsessing over that all-female Blue Origin flight to space–and not always in the nicest of ways – I'm personally obsessing over Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein. Why? Because he's doing his first HBO stand-up special called The Second Best Night of Your Life (premieres April 26) and I can't get over how great my chat with him was. You can listen to that chat on the Parting Shot podcast.

I really shouldn't be surprised it was so great. As a comic, my chats with fellow comics are always the best. What many might find surprising is that Goldstein even does stand-up. To U.S. audiences, he's Roy Kent on Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso, but he's actually been doing stand-up for 17 years.

"One of the upsides is that I think people's expectations are so low, because I think they think I'm an actor trying it. So, I think they come to the show and then they're like, 'Oh, he sort of seems to know what he's doing,'" Goldstein told me. "And I also always love coming in [with] low expectations. So, I think that's been actually a helpful thing, but definitely at the beginning of this big tour I did, before I started it, I did wonder what it was people were thinking they're coming to. I'm sure they probably thought they're coming to see a f****** Roy Kent Q&A or something."

You're definitely going to want to listen to my full chat with Goldstein. That's it for me today. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news. See you Friday!

Friday Night Lights Minka Kelly Returns to Texas with 'Ransom Canyon'

By H. Alan Scott

"It feels like Yellowstone and Friday Night Lights had a baby." For Minka Kelly, whose career skyrocketed on the latter Texas-set drama, joining Netflix's similarly situated Ransom Canyon brought back some "nostalgia." Kelly plays Quinn O'Grady, a woman who returns to the small Texas town after a stint in New York City and rekindles a romance with Staten Kirkland (played by Josh Duhamel).

"What excited me about everyone [in the cast] was just how talented they were, along with how beautiful they all are. There just isn't a weak link." Kelly says Ransom Canyon is both "relatable" and "really different, its own thing...the quintessential American experience, and how the town comes together, and the family values and the family dynamics and the family dramas." Ransom Canyon just adds to the career highs Kelly has been experiencing as of late. She not only appeared on HBO's Euphoria but also released her New York Times best-selling memoir Tell Me Everything. "That book truly changed my whole life. It changed how I perceived myself."
