Gene Hackman Likely 'Didn't Realize' Wife Died, Forensic Pathologist Says

The mystery surrounding the deaths of Academy Award winner Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, has been solved and frankly, it's just tragic.

It turns out Arakawa likely died on February 11 from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare and potentially deadly virus spread by rodents. Hackman, suffering from advanced Alzheimer's disease, was likely unaware that his wife was dead and/or unsure how to respond to her death and died a week later from heart disease, New Mexico authorities confirmed over the weekend.

"He had significant heart disease, and I think ultimately that is what resulted in his in his death," Dr. Heather Jarell, the chief medical investigator at the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, said in a press conference. She added that Alzheimer's disease was a "significant contributory factor."

While it's good that we can put to rest any of the suspicions surrounding this story, the reality of what happened is just heartbreaking. This should serve as a reminder to check on your loved ones.

That's it for me today. I'll be back on Wednesday with more. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news.
