I was late to watch The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks on HBO Max. (If you don't know, it's about an orphaned Ukrainian girl taken in by a family who believes she's actually older than she is, and a lot of other crazy things). Everything about this documentary was insane, from the story to the people involved. Quite literally... bonkers. So, it was only a matter of a time before it got the TV movie treatment, and now it's here with Hulu's Good American Family starring Ellen Pompeo.
I'll be real with you, I don't know what to make of this story. While it seems like Grace suffered significant abuse, there also seems to be a reality TV element involved here. Like people acting out in order to squeeze out that 15 minutes of fame. And while Good American Family is very good (particularly Pompeo and Mark Duplass as the adopting parents of Grace), as I watch it, I can't help but think, "Am I just participating in the ongoing saga of this performative reality show?" Like this TV movie will inspire another season of The Curious Case, just watch. (And duh, I definitely will be watching).
Are you watching? What do you think? Let me know at @HAlanScott on everything.
That's it for me today. Keep scrolling for my chat with Survivor's Bianca Roses, who just got voted off this week. (She did a last-minute move that shocked me). I'll see you Monday!
