Val Kilmer was one of those actors whose mysterious ways just made you want to watch him more. Famous for roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever and The Doors, Kilmer died of pneumonia on Tuesday at the age of 65.
For me, my first introduction to Kilmer was his turn as Batman in Batman Forever. I was a little kid who loved the Batman movies, and the pairing of Kilmer with Nicole Kidman was just almost too much for me as a kid.
In one of his final videos, Kilmer gave a nod to his time as Batman. "I'm ready," Kilmer said in a video posted to social media as he put on a Batman mask. "It's been a while."
There's a quote from one of his final interviews before he lost his voice after undergoing a tracheostomy that really stands out to me.
"I was a dumb actor. I complained quite a bit when I was younger," he said in an interview with a Norwegian journalist. "I didn't appreciate the business that afforded me the lifestyle that I very quickly enjoyed. Very quickly. I starred in my first movie. I was the lead in the first play I did professionally. And now that I don't have that privilege, I wish that I loved more. I want to be a better person. I try to figure that out every day, how to be more grateful."
Other Kilmer films to check out include Real Genius, Willow, Tombstone, Heat, and The Ghost and the Darkness.
That's it for me today. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news. I'll be back Friday with more.
