Will the Olympics be Celine Dion's big comeback?

Wait, is Celine Dion performing at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics?!? It's looking that way. Let's get into it.

TMZ has reported that she's been offered $2 million to perform in addition to covering all her expenses. This would be a bit of a comeback for the singer since she basically retired two years ago after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. But you know what? Chances of this happening seem high, especially considering Dion's slow reappearance in recent months. Earlier this year she appeared at the Grammys and last month she debuted her documentary I Am: Celine Dion.

This would be so exciting! I mean, it's Celine Dion, of course, but also a perfect combination of a French-speaking superstar everyone in the world knows. Her performance would instantly become historic and would come define so much of what the Olympics are about: perseverance. Where do I sign the petition? Because I am very here for Celine Dion performing at the Olympics.

Here's what else is popping in the world of pop culture...

  • Cher was like, if Barbra Streisand can release a massive memoir, so can I! In a post on social media, the Grammy-winning singer announced Part 1 of her two-part memoir. If there's ever been a moment for me to start a book club, it's now.

  • George Clooney got what he wanted when he asked Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, and now he's thrown his full support behind Kamala Harris. In a statement to CNN, Clooney wrote, "President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He's saving democracy once again. We're all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest." (I still question how much of an impact celebrities have on presidential elections. Like who is listening to George Clooney? Now if we're talking about Oprah Winfrey, that's a different story. But a former Batman? I don't know...)

  • Lisa Kudrow is all over the place. First she made news talking to me on the Parting Shot podcast, saying she's ready for a third season of The Comeback, and now she's admitting to finally being able to watch Friends. In a recent visit to Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Kudrow said, "I used to not be able to watch it at all. I mean, I'd see it on and be, like, mildly interested and then I'd see me and say 'That's enough of that, I can't bear it,' and then—well, listen, after Matthew died I could start watching the show again because it wasn't about me. It had to do with him for some reason," Kudrow explained. "And, so I have started watching Friends. Not started like season one, you know, but there are marathons on and I have spent at times, since he died, all day long watching the show."

That's it for me today. Make sure you listen to my interview with Bette Midler!! I'll be chatting with Josh Hartnett and Sheryl Lee Ralph next week. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news. I'll see you Friday!

Bette Midler on 'The Fabulous Four' and Her Hope for a 'Beaches' Sequel

By H. Alan Scott

If you ask Bette Midler how she got her part in the new film The Fabulous Four, it wouldn't have anything to do with her legendary status as a performer, or that she's an Oscar-nominated actor. "I think they needed a ham, a big ole ham. So, I got that part." Midler plays Marilyn, a widow getting remarried who rekindles a friendship with her three college girlfriends, played by Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Megan Mullally. "No actor doesn't like to chew the scenery, even if they don't admit it. So, to have the permission to pull out all the stops is always great."

What was also great was working with her three costars. "Working with these these girls...girls, girls, oh my God, we're 100! These women! Working with these women was really an eye-opener because everybody's process is different." Part of what makes Midler's performance so fun is that it gives longtime fans of hers another taste of her Divine Miss M stage persona, albeit through Marilyn.

"Sometimes when I meet people, they expect me to be her, and I'm not her. I've got her, and then I've got me. And since I've taken a step back from that truly active life of touring and stage shows, I find myself getting quieter and quieter. I know people want her to come back. I do love her. And in a way, she's still tweeting, but in real life, you can't be on 24/7. You'll die. You'll just die."
