Bennifer is Officially Over

JLo is back on the block. Yesterday, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, ending a saga that has become Hollywood's worst kept secret. Let's get into it.

For months now all signs have been pointing to trouble in paradise for Bennifer, but they stayed quiet. They spent the summer apart, even put their home up for sale, yet never said anything about their two-year marriage ending. In her divorce filing, Lopez listed April 26, 2024, as the date of their separation, so at least we weren't all crazy speculating about it. (Also, sources told TMZ, who was first to report the story, that they had no prenuptial agreement. No. Prenuptial. Agreement! Jennifer! Ben! What were you thinking?!)

The news of their divorce brings to an end the millennial dream that was their love. They famously first got together in 2003, only to separate and rekindle their romance nearly 20 years later in 2022. We were rooting for them. They scratched that nostalgic itch us millennials love so much. Now what are we supposed to do?

If you think about it, Jennifer Lopez really is our modern-day Elizabeth Taylor. (Just without the Oscars.) This was her fourth marriage, and we've all been on this love journey with her. Obviously, a divorce is not something to celebrate, but at least it does give us something to look forward to: her next album. Like, we know what that's going to be about, you know what I mean?

Here's what else is poppin' in the world of pop culture...

  • Did you see the Democratic National Convention yesterday? Because DJ Cassidy and Lil Jon turned the roll call, traditionally a very boring experience, into a dance party. When Goergia was called to announce their delegates, who did they have do it? Atlanta's Lil Jon, who performed "Turn Down for What."

  • Speaking of the DNC, make sure you're listening to the Parting Shot podcast this week because we're recapping all the twists and turns happening every day at the DNC.

  • Not for nothing, I randomly noticed Dirty Dancing came out today, August 21, 1987. Then I saw people on social media talking about it. So, like, be like the wind and give it a watch today. Especially to remember the late, great Patrick Swayze.

That's it for me today. I'll be back Friday with more entertainment news. In the meantime, keep scrolling!

Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor on How Friendships Can Be Our Greatest 'Romances'

By H. Alan Scott

Ever since Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in King Richard, she's kept busy with three major upcoming projects. In Lee Daniel's The Deliverance (in theaters now; on Netflix August 30), she co-stars alongside Glenn Close and Mo'Nique. "I just hope they didn't catch me staring." She's following that up with Hulu's The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat (August 23), about Ellis-Taylor's Odette and her two best friends. "I love that Odette was always a protector of her friends...I just think that's heroic." And she's wrapping things up this fall with the film adaptation of Colson Whitehead's novel The Nickel Boys.

For Ellis-Taylor, it was the curiosity of the real-life events that led her to it. "I love that idea that it opens this door to discovering things that we just don't know about." But no matter how busy she is, she's self-aware about this moment in her career. Read all about Ellis-Taylor below.
