Welcoming Jack Blues Bieber (Feel Old?)

To my Gen Z readers, welcome to my box. Oh no, no, I'm still on the older millennial side, but you have officially entered the territory of your life where celebrities from your childhood are now having children. Over the weekend, Justin and Hailey Bieber welcomed their first child, Jack Blues. Does this make you feel old? (And if you feel old, imagine how I feel.)

Justin announced the birth of Jack in an Instagram post, excitingly writing in the caption, "WELCOME HOME JACK BLUES BIEBER." Hailey, a model and daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, shared the post to her stories.

I can remember when Britney Spears had her first kid, and it made me feel so old. There is something about major celebs like Spears and Bieber that when they experience these huge life moments, like having kids or getting married, it almost feels like it's happening to us. It feels personal. And in some way, you compare where you are in your own life to where they are. (Except for the money. We'll never have as much money as they do. Trust me, I've tried.)

But huge congrats to the Biebers. Now I just want to know if Bieber is going to sing his song "Baby" to his new baby. Like that needs to happen ASAP.

Here's what else is poppin' in the world of pop culture...

  • If the drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni was manufactured to make It Ends With Us a hit, it worked. The film continues to do well and now officially is Lively's highest-grossing film, having taken in over $242 million worldwide thus far.
  • The director of the new film The Crow, Rupert Sanders, told Variety that the star of the film, Bill Skarsgård, ate raw eggs and avoided sugar to achieve his fit body for the role. I feel like this is where you're supposed to insert a Tina Fey joke about how this is what every actress does, no matter the role. But hey, good for him for getting the headline.
  • Is Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's $68 million Beverly Hills mansion cursed? Seems to be, because nobody wants to buy it. The former couple, who announced their divorce last week, purchased the 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom home—who needs 24 bathrooms? —in 2023 and put a ton of money into renovating it. But because of the market and the quick turnaround after purchasing the home, buyers just aren't biting. You can guarantee this home sale will be part of whatever settlement they come to in their divorce, especially considering they allegedly didn't have a pre-nuptial agreement.
  • I've got two great chats coming to the Parting Shot podcast later this week. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor joins me to chat about her two big projects this month, The Deliverance and The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat. Then I'll chat with John Cho about his new film Afraid and what it's like to enter his DILF era. Subscribe wherever you get podcasts.

That's it for me today. I'll be back on Wednesday with more. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news.

MrBeast Controversy: Is World's Most Popular YouTuber Getting Canceled?

By Billie Schwab Dunn

MrBeast has found himself embroiled in controversy lately, which begs the question: Can the world's most popular YouTuber be canceled? Newsweek spoke to various PR crisis experts to find out.

At 26 years old, MrBeast—real name Jimmy Donaldson—holds the record for the most subscribers on YouTube, with 311 million followers at the time of writing. According to Forbes, in 2022 he was earning $54 million a year, mostly from ads on his YouTube videos. He has also become known for giving back to his followers, often uploading videos of his charitable acts.

MrBeast's videos—many of which involve viral stunts and challenges or massive giveaways—cost millions to produce. One of his most popular, and most expensive, videos to create was a real-life recreation of the hit Netflix show Squid Game. It has more than 647 million views on YouTube and cost $3.5 million.
