SNL's Election Year: Rudolph Delivers, Sketches Don't

Michael Keaton hosted and opened talking about his "new" movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice... that came out at the beginning of September. Oh, and Billie Eilish was the musical guest to promote her "new" album Hit Me Hard and Soft... that came out last May!

Anyway, on a more topical note, Maya Rudolph was back as Vice President Kamala Harris to open the show. They did a send up of her Fox News interview with Alec Baldwin playing Bret Baier. Rudolph's Harris ended up doing a series of viral fads like the "demure" trend, while cutting to Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) spoofing Trump's very interesting jam session he had at a rally last week. (For more on that, just watch last Friday's Parting Shot podcast.)

Now listen, I love SNL during an election year, but is it just me or does something feel off? It's not hitting like it did with Tina Fey's Sarah Palin or even Kate McKinnon's Hillary Clinton hit. Rudolph is perfect, but the sketches have been... meh. Maybe that will change as election days nears... in 15 days.

Vicki Gunvalson 'Disappointed' 'Ultimate Girls Trip' Didn't Air

By Billie Schwab Dunn

The Real Housewives of Orange County alum Vicki Gunvalson expressed her disappointment to Newsweek over the decision not to air Ultimate Girls Trip: Morocco following sexual assault allegations made by one of the cast members.

Almost two years after filming wrapped, the season, which was set to feature an all-star cast of Real Housewives veterans, aimed to reunite several Bravo favorites, including Gretchen Rossi, Brandi Glanville, Eva Marcille, Phaedra Parks and Gunvalson. Joining the cast for the first time were Camille Grammer, Caroline Manzo and Alex McCord.

However, filming was disrupted when former Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member Manzo accused former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Glanville of sexual assault. Glanville denies wrongdoing.
