Listen, the establishment of country music might not be welcoming to Beyoncé, but fans are, and they let their voices be heard during Netflix's Christmas Day NFL halftime performance. Despite not picking up any nominations at the Country Music Association Awards, fans went wild for her 12-minute performance from her album Cowboy Carter. (Some she performed for the first time).
And there was a lot riding on this halftime show. The Jake Paul-Mike Tyson match, the last live streaming event from Netflix, didn't exactly go smoothly. (In a likely reference to those technical glitches, Beyoncé's promo for the halftime show featured Netflix's dreaded buffering circle). But the NFL game and the halftime showw went smoothly, with Netflix announcing they will release Beyoncé's entire performance on the platform.
The highlight of the performance was Blue Ivy's appearance. Beyoncé and Jay-Z's daughter danced alongside her mother and hundreds of other dancers.
All this said, it's not like she really needed any of this validation. Despite past pushback from country music stalwarts and conservatives, Cowboy Carter picked up 11 Grammy nominations and she's a favorite to win at the February ceremony. To keep the buzz going, Beyoncé posed the date "January 14th" to her social media, hinting at a major announcement. I think it's fair to say, 2025 is setting itself up to be the year of Beyoncé.
