Tony-award winning actress Linda Lavin died Sunday at 87 after only recently discovering a lung cancer diagnosis. The veteran actress of TV and Broadway–Lavin starred in the long-running sitcom Alice and won a Tony for her performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound–had worked steadily up until the time of her death. She recently appeared in the new Netflix series No Good Deed and only had three episodes left to shoot of Hulu's upcoming comedy series Mid-Centry Modern.
Her death puts the Hulu series in a difficult situation. Created by Will & Grace's Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, the series stars Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer and featured Lavin as a central character. The series was on a holiday break from filming and planned to go back to production in mid-January.
"Working with Linda was one of the highlights of our careers," Mutchnick, Kohan and James Burrows, the series' director, wrote in a joint statement. "She was a magnificent actress, singer, musician, and a heat seeking missile with a joke. But more significantly, she was a beautiful soul. Deep, joyful, generous and loving. She made our days better. The entire staff and crew will miss her beyond measure. We are better for having known her."
My interest in this series was already very high, but now that it will be Lavin's last appearance on screen, that makes Mid-Centry Modern a must watch new show when it premieres later this year.
We won't be sending a newsletter out this Wednesday because of the holiday. I hope you have a great new year, and I'll see you on Friday with more entertainment news. (We're getting everything prepped for the Golden Globes this Sunday!) Keep scrolling for more.
