About Those Oscar Nominations

When your name is Nicole Kidman or Denzel Washington, you're automatically in the running for an Academy Award. Like, I bet you someone tried to figure out a way for Kidman to get an Honorary Oscar for those AMC ads. But when the Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, Kidman, Washington and other big names were not in the mix.

Kidman was snubbed for Babygirl, but she's fine, she already has an Oscar. And Washington was snubbed for Gladiator II, but he's fine too, he has two Oscars! Perhaps the biggest snub was Pamela Anderson's performance in The Last Showgirl. Anderson and the film picked up a ton of nominations this awards season, and it even seemed like Jamie Lee Curtis might get a Supporting nom for her performance. Well, neither of them got a nomination and the film got a whopping zero nominations.

Other snubs included Angelina Jolie for Maria, Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Hard Truths, Danielle Deadwyler for The Piano Lesson, Amy Adams for Nightbitch, and Daniel Craig for Queer. Oh, and can we talk about how Selena Gomez is somehow the only person not nominated for Emilia Pérez?!

But, regardless of the snubs, I'm most happy for one nomination: Demi Moore nominated for Best Actress for The Substance. It's this kind of career comeback story that makes the Oscars race so exciting.

(Also, listen to my chat with Mikey Madison, who was nominated for Anora. We chatted long before the season started, and it's just been great to see her succeed for this performance.)

One A$AP Rocky Juror Is 'Very Risky' for Rapper's Case

By Erin Keller

The jury is set in A$AP Rocky's felony assault case, but lawyers tell Newsweek that one female juror, a firearms instructor, is "very risky" in the rapper's alleged shooting case.

However, Joe Tacopina, an attorney for A$AP Rocky, told Newsweek that the rapper's defense has "nothing to hide" in this case and that they wanted a juror who is familiar with firearms.

A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The charges stem from a 2021 incident where he allegedly fired shots at his former friend A$AP Relli.
