In a surprising turn of events that just seems fitting for someone like Beyoncé, her big win at the Grammys for Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter wasn't the top moment of the night. No, it was the face she made when she won Best Country Album. Her shocked expression instantly became a meme. With that win she became the first Black woman to win Best Country Album, and her win for Album of the Year is the first time a Black woman has won that award since Lauryn Hill won it in 1999.
The other big winner of the night was Kendrick Lamar for his Drake diss track "Not Like Us," which picked up Record of the Year and Song of the Year. (I guess that's one way to get the last word.)
And a slew of pop princesses picked up a ton of Grammys. Chappell Roan won Best New Artist, Sabrina Carpenter won Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance, and Charli XCX won three Grammys in the dance/electronic categories.
While the night went largely as expected, several artists used their acceptance speeches to promote causes. Chappell Roan advocated for music labels to pay young, signed talent livable wages and health insurance. Lady Gaga advocated for transgender awareness, saying, "Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love, the queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you."
And Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, advocated for... public nudity? This one was weird.
Well, that's it for me today. I'll be back on Wednesday with more! Keep scrolling for more entertainment news.
