Listen, one of my favorite things about watching an awards show is waiting for that shocking moment.
Unfortunately, so far this awards season there haven't been many shocking wins. The SAG Awards were shaping up largely as expected until Timothée Chalamet's name was announced as the Best Actor for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. What does this mean for next week's Oscars? Well, it could actually have a big impact.
You see, the SAG Awards are usually a good indicator of who will win acting Oscars, because just like with the Academy Awards, it's actors voting for actors. Up until last night, Adrien Brody was the front-runner for his performance in The Brutalist, but there's been a shift in the narrative in recent weeks, with The Brutalist getting criticized for the films use of AI. This seems to have created a path for Chalamet to sneak in there. (Also, Chalamet's unconventional and viral campaign around A Complete Unknown helped, not to mention him dating one of the most famous women in the world, Kylie Jenner.)
With all that said, don't be surprised if Chalamet takes home the Oscar next Sunday. Also expect Demi Moore, Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldaña's names to be announced. Another film to look out for is Anora, which has been picking up steam at recent awards shows and could easily win Best Director for Sean Baker. (And if Demi Moore's name isn't announced Oscar night, the Best Actress Oscar will go to Anora's Mikey Madison. Listen to my chat with her about Anora's unexpected success.)
That's it for me today. I'll see you Wednesday. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news.
