Taylor Swift is THE Childless Cat Lady
It's been a cruel summer debating whether Taylor Swift would endorse a candidate, but she decided to fill the blank space last night and say to former President Donald Trump there's no bad blood between them, but her love story at the ballot box this year is going to be with Vice President Kamala Harris. (See what I did there? Don't worry, I'm embarrassed for myself too.)
That's right, Swift has thrown her support behind Harris, writing in a statement on Instagram that she's voting for Harris "because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos." She also highlighted Harris' choice of Governor Tim Walz as VP, writing, "I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades."
She posted this right after Harris and Trump faced off in what is likely to be their only debate. Speaking of, did you watch it? (That cat part, am I right?!) I recapped it on the latest episode of the Parting Shot podcast. Make sure you're subscribed.
Will Swift's endorsement have an impact at the ballot box? I don't know, I'm always skeptical of celebrity endorsements. But there's no doubt that an artist like Swift, similar to Beyoncé, is almost bigger than mere celebrities. They're their own industries, they impact economies when their concerts come to town, like they leave a footprint with everything they do. That alone could lead to even a couple hundred votes here and there, and we all know how close elections these days are. Time will tell!
Let's break down other things poppin' in the world of pop culture...
That's it for me today. I'll be back on Friday with my Emmy predictions. Until then, keep scrolling for more entertainment news.
